Betty J Sampsell

Lake Williams Overlook

Betty Sampsell, a native of York, Pennsylvania, has enjoyed drawing, painting and studying art for most of her life.  She attended Chouinard Art Institute (California Institute of Art), Los Angeles, California.  Returning to Pennsylvania, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Millersville University.  While working at Caterpillar, her interest in Information Processing led to  two years of study in computer programming at Penn State York. That was followed by a  career as a Computer Programmer/Analyst and as a Consutant with Comp-U-Staff of Camp Hill.

Her painting style ranges from impressionism and realism to abstract.  She attributes publications such as art magazines, art books and DVD's with providing inspiration, fundamentals and art principles used in her work.  After painting in oil for several years she switched to acrylic and found it well suited to her painting style.  The quick drying time of acrylic allows the experimental, searching technique used in her paintings.  Her subjects include still life, flowers, landscape, animals and people.

Betty is a member of the York Art Association and participates in member exhibits and juried shows.  She has exhibited in several group shows.  Her work has received many awards including the Rottler Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts presented by the York Art Association.  Her paintings appear in a self-puplished book entitled "The Get Well Book".
